Frequently Asked Questions

  • FAQs

Q. Why require a monthly commitment instead of special or occasional gifts? To be effective, a community-based Bible study needs to be ongoing and long-term. This requires ongoing, long-term, and consistent Bible teachers. It is detrimental to the students – and by extension to their families who are also affected – to begin a Bible study that does not have the funding to continue. And, once we hire and train these pastors, they rely on that salary as steady income.

Q. How will I know when a pastor I’ve sponsored has been fully sponsored?
You will receive email updates as there is progress in your pastor’s sponsorship. You may always check back on this website for the status. And, once a pastor has been fully sponsored, you will receive an email update from him twice a year.

Q. Aren’t these pastors supported by their churches?
Two of our 11 Bible study pastors do pastor a traditional “church.” But nine of them do not. Their “congregation” consists of the dozens or hundreds of blind students in the weekly Bible studies. So, while they do not pastor a church in the sense we in the West often mean, they are very much pastors. And their salary comes exclusively through RBI.

Q. What do I do if my credit card is declined?
  • Make sure your card number, the expiration data, and the CVC are all correct as these are the primary factors used by your bank when they decide whether or not to process your donation.
  • Make sure your personal information that you entered into your sponsor profile is correct and complete, i.e. first and last name, complete mailing address, etc.
  • If you are still having problems making a donation, please contact your bank to have them authorize your donation(s) to Resources for the Blind (through Stripe—our credit card processor). Since banks are continually changing their fraud protection policies, your card may suddenly stop working, even if you have made a successful donation on our site before. In some cases, your bank may not contact you if they have put a hold on your card.
  • Lastly if you still cannot make a donation, and if you have completed the above troubleshooting tips, please contact our office at blindsponsorships@blindusa.org or 907-202-5657.

  • Q. Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, for U.S. citizens. RBI is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt from our office after you make your donation. For those outside of the U.S., please check with your country’s tax laws and codes concerning charitable gifts.
